Hungarian pessimism

You will hear that Hungarians are deeply pessimistic. It's true. We like to prepare for the worst, so anything slightly better than the worst feels like a pleasant surprise.

Even the Hungarian anthem is quite dark: it says this nation has already paid enough for the sins of the past and the future.
